Information in a nutshell

1)If somebody dies at home or in a nursing home, the first thing to do is call their Doctor and see if he will issue a death Men walkingcertificate. If it is a sudden death then the coroner has to be notified, but the Doctor may still issue a death certificate if he knows the medical history. Please note the deceased should not be moved until the Doctor or police have attended.

what does the coroner do and if somebody dies at home

2) Usually a nursing home will want the details of the funeral director when first admitting the person and they will call the Funeral Director concerned. If the deceased died at home then someone should ring as soon as possible after the doctor has certified life extinct. The Funeral Director will transfer the deceased from the place of death as soon as possible after being notified

On the day
All you need to do is get ready and allow the funeral directors to do their job, he/she will take control and direct everything as you have requested. If you have ordered a mourning car it will pick you at the time arranged. Then will join the hearse, following directly behind to where the service is going to be held. Alternatively time will be arranged for you to join the cortege if you are driving your own car. Allow friends to support you and help with any food preparations if you are putting on refreshments at home. It is also common to have a venue and the funeral director will announce this at the end of the service if you wish.

After the funeral
It is a lonely time even amidst family and friends and you don't have to be strong for everyone else. Everyone grieves in their own way and you will feel all sorts of emotions, anger, guilt, sorrow, relief or you may feel numb with no emotion. These are all normal, whatever the emotion.
